For 41 years, People’s Rights in Demanding Equality, or P.R.I.D.E., has organized a motorcade and rally in honor of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Spearheading the even all those year is George Burney, the organization’s president. Burney and his group organize food, toy and clothes drives and well as encouraging education to improve someones own situation.

This year Mayor Greg Fischer took time to honor Beatrice Westlake, George’s wife, for her work to make the motorcade happen. 41 years ago, she got Judge Ben Shobe as the first Grand Marshall. That day, only 10 cars took part. Today 700 cars participate because the entire community is invited to get involved.
