The Football Season is Around the Corner

It’s fairly obvious that I enjoy watching the Valley Vikings, and my son London, play football. The football parents and I have seen this team come a long way. During London’s freshman season, the varsity team didn’t win a single game. However, since our kids also played J.V. ball, we knew something special could happen. Last year, London’s sophomore campaign, the team made it to the playoffs.

In the off-season, this team had some turmoil. The head coach left. Then, after a few months, the replacement head coach also left the team. As you might imagine, that might cause some confusion with the students and the parents alike. Then the school announced that they would promote assistant coach Alan Campos to the top job.

You know the name from the University of Louisville and the Dallas Cowboys. During summer practice and through scrimmages, you could see that the players feel a sense of direction and are buying into the new system. As evidence of that, the team played a three-way scrimmage Friday night against Larue County and Nelson County. Each team got 10 plays on offense and on defense against each other school. The Vikings offense looked great and the defense showed flashes of brilliance, particularly their first set of downs that included 2 quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery.

Good luck Vikings. The season starts Friday at arch rival Pleasure Ridge Park.
