Football: Atherton at Valley

Valley High School head football coach Alan Campos and his 2016 Vikings hosted their home opener last night looking for this season’s first win. For Campos, he also wanted his first win as the man in charge, moving up from the assistant ranks this year. The coach is already a winner as a player from his successful campaigns as a University of Louisville Cardinal linebacker to his NFL career and even when he played arena football where he lined up on both offense and defense and scored 7 rushing touchdowns in 2000.

According to predictions, Valley looked like a touchdown favorite in the game and, in fact, won by two TDs 28-13. Correcting a miscue here and there could have widened the margin of victory. It gives the Vikings something to work on for the next game where they travel to Iroquois to do battle next week.

The team chemistry continues to improve over the previous seasons that I’ve been witness to since my son joined the team. For this season, there doesn’t seem to be any let up and every player wants to keep his foot on the gas until the end. They want to finish which is a far cry from London’s freshman season when the previous coach had to control in fighting and back biting. I like what Coach Campos is doing and the guys buy into the program.

Congrats to Coach Campos on his first win as the head man. Now let’s go out there and get some more. You’ve already proven you’ve got the team that can do it. You can find the sights from the game below.
