Other Scenes at the Bucket

If you remember, critics derided the assumed nickname of the downtown basketball arena when Yum! Brands assumed the role of title sponsor. How could they not name the arena after KFC? Would there be the same connection to the community if they had called it the Long John Silver’s Yum! Center? Continue reading “Other Scenes at the Bucket”

The Cowboy Rides Away in Louisville. Want to see some pictures?

Cowboy Rides Away with George Strait and Vince Gill by Tim Girton

Last night at the KFC Yum! Center, country music hitmaker and Hall of Famer George Strait came to sing many of his 70 number one hits during the Louisville stop of his “Cowboy Rides Away” tour. It’s said to be his last full tour and, after such a distinguished career his fans understood why while at the same time not wanting the ride to end. The History of the Eagles started in the ‘Ville

The Eagles at the KFC Yum! Center by Tim Girton

Saturday night, I got a chance to spend an evening with the Eagles at the KFC Yum! Center on the first leg of their new tour called “History of the Eagles” that I covered for Louisville.com. I knew their music – who doesn’t – but I’d never seen them in concert before. As you might imagine, the excitement level was off the chart. Here’s an excerpt that I wrote:  Continue reading “The History of the Eagles started in the ‘Ville”

The New Kids came to our block

New Kids on the Block by Tim Girton

New Kids on the Block headlined “The Package” last night at the KFC Yum! Center. The tour was so named because one band performed for NKOTB, 98 Degrees and Boyz II Men. What that did for the fans was keep set changes to a minimum. In fact, arena lights stayed dark between Boyz II Men and 98 Degrees because the pause between the two boy bands added up to 90 seconds. When you find yourself lucky enough to cover a top 10 NCAA college basketball team, you want to do it right. When you’re an alum of the school, you want to do it even better. That’s the answer I give my family when they ask why I get to the game so early which is typically 90 minutes before tip-off. In that time period, you get to do your homework, pick out the match ups you want to make sure to get shots of and enjoy the stuff going on behind the television cameras. Last night the University of Louisville basketball Cardinals made another appearance on ESPN’s Big Monday broadcast by taking on old rival Cincinnati. The Cards rolled the team from up I-71 67-51 as they look to go into the Big East tournament. Thankfully, Louisville.com had enabled me to see every home game with my camera. Louisville basketball in the second half

Here comes Russ.
Here comes Russ.

On Saturday, I found myself inside the KFC Yum! Center for a battle between the University of Louisville Cardinals and the Seton Hall Pirates. And during the game, I tried a different method of covering with the express purpose of filing my story faster and more efficiently I’m not sure it will work for the two home games we have left, but it felt good. Okay, the two subjects in the title don’t have much to do with each other, if anything, but it was a way to work in the fact that the two entities broke out in something new. Continue reading “Louisville basketball back on track, This Is Louisville displays a new look”
